Companion Activities to our Stories for Older Adults are three-part card sets designed to highlight a different visual perspective on the story and add new points of interest to engage the reader and extend conversation.
Three-part cards can also be used independently as part of a reading therapy toolkit for memory care communities.
As dementia expert, Jennifer Brush, M.A., CCC/SLP, explains . . . “care partners, volunteers or family members reading with a person with dementia can expand the idea of ‘reading’ to include just talking about an (illustration) . . . .” Reading for the person with dementia can begin with the word labels, and continue with conversations sparked by the illustrations and words. Reading then becomes, not a source of frustration, but an engaging one-on-one interaction essential to the well-being of the person with dementia.
Our three-part card sets feature large print and bold, full-color illustrations against a white background. They are printed on 80# card stock and laminated with 5mil non-glare film for easy viewing and handling.
