The Rascals are playing their opening game against their neighboring rival, The Grumpies.  This popular team of seasoned players and their tail-wagging mascot, Bingo, rally the fans with their antics for a fun, crowd-pleasing game that includes a rousing chorus of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” in the seventh-inning stretch

This senior baseball story was written especially for reading groups, and includes large-type song lyrics to “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” for a seventh-inning sing-along.  No matter which team you’re rooting for, singing the familiar tune, in the tradition of the seventh-inning stretch, connects individuals with feelings of camaraderie, nostalgia and love of the game. These shared feelings can be a springboard for conversation.

A one-page listing of facts about the history of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” is included at the end of the story and can serve to further extend the conversation.

The story also hopes to convey the strong sense of belonging and community that is fostered in  baseball teams for older adults  playing in communities everywhere across the U.S. 

 Written and formatted  to be inclusive of individuals in the later stages of dementia.
